Trabocchi Coast

The Costa dei Trabocchi, in the heart of Abruzzo, is one of the most evocative stretches of coastline on the Adriatic. This coastline, between Ortona and Vasto, is famous for its ancient wooden constructions called trabocchi, fishing piles that overlook the sea and tell stories of tradition and ancient crafts. Here, nature alternates between golden beaches, hidden coves and rocky promontories, while the crystal-clear sea invites you to relax, swim or explore the coastline by kayak or bicycle along the famous Costa dei Trabocchi Greenway Cycling Trail in the province of Chieti. Today, many trabocchi have become cosy seaside restaurants: perfect places to enjoy fresh fish dishes surrounded by breathtaking views, where every sunset becomes an unforgettable experience.

The ruins of the Roman Villa of Tollo (in the locality of San Pietro), now part of the Cantina Feudo Antico- is a place where millenary history and modern viticulture meet. Origin and historical importance The archaeological remains belong to a rustic villa from the Roman-Imperial period, probably active from the 1st century B.C. to the 6th-7th centuries A.D., with traces of frequentation also in the Middle Ages linked to the later presence of the church of San Pietro. Excavations have brought to light productive structures linked to agriculture, especially wine and oil production, evidence that the area was already a centre of agricultural processing in Roman times.
